I have just published a book which was edited and designed by Stylus Design.

The book was produced beautifully, colourful and interesting while the work done to improve the imagery and photographs was inspiring. My readers saw images of themselves they had never been able to recognise.

The book was about Yugoslavs, so many names were accented and the spelling complicated – it was important to my interviewees that their names were spelt correctly. This proved not to be a problem for Valda, Graham and Harry who tackled the task with humour and dedication. Their editing and attention to detail was second to none. I would highly recommend their services to any author wishing to publish.

Good communication between the author and editor/ designers meant that editorial suggestions, index and references and the location and enhancements of photographs made the final stages of putting the manuscript together a simpler and carefree task. I am still impressed by their willingness to familiarise themselves with the locality featured in my sixth book, Cottesloe a Town of Distinction and their efforts to photograph scenes not readily available.

Intent on making the publication a success and not just a commercial venture the designers’ flexibility, when approached to add two late-discovered photographs and slightly altered text in the final stages before going to print, was not only unusual but highly appreciated.  

Presentation would have been one of the key issues taken into account when the book designed by Stylus Design won the History Category in the 2008 WA Premier’s Book Award.
